With old age comes wisdom, followed shortly by the lost of it.

How I despise the idea of growing old and being bed-ridden, of spending a lifetime gathering every bit of knowledge only to lose it afterwards. I hate it.
My grandfather doesn’t even come close to an eighth of the man he was before he got a heart attack. His once towering figure is now reduced to the frail form supported by his bed and his once commanding voice is reduced to a mere whisper. But some things remain: his violent nature refuses to leave him. The all-too-familiar Putangina mo’s ang Ihi lang kita’s can still be heard. Even his old strength hasn’t completely left him for there are times when he tries to grab a person passing by and ends up giving him or her scratches on their arm. But still, these are just flashes of the man who once fathered seven misled young men and a confused girl. Chasing his first born out of the house with a .45 in his hand is but one proof of his once unbending ways in disciplining his kids. But now, his pitiful stature does not even come close to the shadow of the former Barangay Captain from the Marcos era.
Today, I have just finished assisting my uncle in changing my Lolo’s diapers. He can’t even recall our names as he keeps on asking us who we are. Can I blame him if he can’t even tell when he has to go? A year ago, when he still hasn’t lost his ability to walk, he would often piss and shit in the living room. And when he was bed-ridden, he would always wet his bed and throw his shit all over the place after he had rolled it into a ball. It was childhood all over again and I’m the witness to his return to innocence.
It’s kind of hard for us to see what he’s going through right now. But knowing him, I can’t help but wonder if these are his just rewards, the fruit of what he has sown. As for me, I wouldn’t want to grow old if it means losing your mind. I’d rather die or be killed before that happens.

Sayang at may klase ako kaya hindi ako nakasama.bad trip. marami akong na-miss noong gabing yaon. discussion kasi agad ang ginawa noong prof ko. i have a feeling that this is gonna be a hell term. 9 subjects: 5 lectures and 4 laboratories, all major ones. what the hell, we shine under pressure, don't we? kasi magiging oily yung balat mo kaya kapag nasikatan ka ng araw, makintab ka. i-explain ba naman. i need alcohol. oops, naliligaw ako sa title na inilagay ko sa taas. naka-bold letters pa naman. anyway, make sure that next time we drink in the evening not in the afternoon so that i could be a part of that session. ok? basta laging 6 ang labas ko, oki?

Hell Term

Ehrm, tulad ng sinabi ko kanina, this is going to be a hell of a term. 4 lab subjects means that for every 4 out of 5 weekdays, i'll have to spend 3 hours inside the laboratories in our building. And that's not all. Each subject requires pre-lab, lab, and/or post-lab reports. Fun...

...that all of my lecture subjects are scheduled in the afternoon from 2:30-5:50 (except on Wednesdays kasi wala akong class ng 3:40-4:40)? Tapos, lahat ay sa isang room lang! kaya kung nais ninyo akong hanapin tuwing hapon, alam na ninyong nasa V309 lamang ako. Amazing!

Kagabi ay naabutan ko sina Bugie, Ato, Arun, PB, Yot, at Dandi sa Greenplace at kami'y nagpakasaya, nagpalunod sa beer, at nagkwentuhan! Saya! Ang sarap talaga ng alkohol... hindi ko na ikagugulat kapag ikinamatay ko ito.
