I really can't keep my word, can I?
I always tell myself I'll quit smoking but I'm still at it.
And I said I'm gonna play from now on but I still keep on falling.
Why o why o why o why?

This hit me a few days after my Great Grandmother's funeral. All (I'm assuming here.) Filipinos know that one's great grandmother and great, great grandmother is called "lola sa tuhod" and "lola sa talampakan", respectively. Now, for some reason, I asked myself "Why is it that it's that specific?" and "Why isn't there an equivalent term for great, great, great grandmother?"
This is what I came up with:
It's not usual that one's great grandmother lives long enough to see her great grandson. Of course, it's more unlikely for the great, great grandmother. Even more so for the great, great, great grandmother, which is actually close to impossible I think.
Tracing the attachment to the word "lola", we can see that from the knee, we move down to the sole, which is the bottommost part of the human body, the one closest to the ground. If you move further down, following the distance from the knee to the sole, you end up underneath the ground. And that's when the realization came to me. The older the generation, the closest they are to the ground. Hence the specific names. They didn't bother with the great, great, great grandmother because there would be no need to address her.
Of course, the same goes for the greatn grandfather, where n stands for the degree (for lack of a better word. Tinatamad na rin ako mag-isip e. Haha.)
Logical, right? Ang galing talaga ng Pinoy.
... will be on Monday. The subject is ELETHEO or Electromagnetics and something-Theory. I had finished making the exam a while ago while I was in the faculty room. It consisted of 5 parts, each worth 20 points. As with all ECE exams, the students will have an hour and a half to try answering it. Put the stress on try. Pun intended.
So, I took it upon myself to see how I would fare in my own test. I managed to finish it in 44 minutes, taking 10, 10, 7, 6, and 11 minutes for items 1 to 5, respectively; and that was with co-faculty members talking to me and several windows opened on my laptop. Haha.
Anyway, I still have another exam to compose. But that won't be til next Friday, which means that that can wait.
